Make the Most of GivingTuesday

Annual fundraising events like GivingTuesday are great opportunities for nonprofits to reach new donors and get a wider audience excited about their cause. The team at AES has years of fundraising experience, and we’ve put together some GivingTuesday ideas so you can make the most of these events.

GivingTuesday for Nonprofits

What Is GivingTuesday?

Each year, GivingTuesday falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and encourages consumers to give instead of get. This international movement began in 2012 and continues to gain momentum, providing nonprofits with an unparalleled opportunity to boost awareness and donations. Consumers are prepared and willing to give on this day, so it’s up to nonprofits to make the most of GivingTuesday! This year, GivingTuesday falls on December 3, 2024.

How Should I Promote GivingTuesday?

The sooner you start your GivingTuesday campaign, the better – early planning and preparation are the keys to success. Create anticipation and awareness around your organization by setting clear goals and developing a solid campaign strategy. Here are some GivingTuesday ideas for a social media campaign:

  • Craft unique content that will resonate with your audience. While there are GivingTuesday Canva templates for nonprofits to utilize, we recommend using photo and video content that shows your organization’s mission and work! Also, consider going live on GivingTuesday.
  • Engage repeat donors with SMS and email marketing before and during GivingTuesday on December 3
  • Streamline content publishing by scheduling ahead.
  • Facilitate easy giving with a virtual fundraising page.
  • Express gratitude to supporters, and invite new donors to sign up for email newsletters and follow your organization on social media.

GivingTuesday Ideas

Impact Challenges

Design challenges that highlight the impact of donations. For example, you can challenge donors to fund a specific number of meals, trees planted, or scholarships awarded on GivingTuesday.

Corporate Matching Campaigns

Approach corporate partners to match donations made during GivingTuesday. This not only incentivizes individual donors but amplifies the impact of each contribution. It will also open the door to future partnerships or sponsorships!

Give for Good Challenges

Create fun challenges tied to giving milestones, such as “Donate $10 to unlock a funny video from our team” or “Reach $500 collectively to see our CEO do a silly dance on camera.”

Impact Bingo

Create a virtual Bingo card with squares representing different impact achievements (e.g., “Provide a month’s worth of meals,” “Plant 100 trees”). Donors can pledge to cover the cost of achieving each square, and you can update the Bingo card via social media Reels or videos to track your progress! Find easy-to-use Bingo templates here.

Encourage Other Donations

Share ways that people can support your organization if they’re not in the financial position to give! This helps you reach a wider audience and can lead to long-term volunteers who are invested in your mission.
